CHINA PROGRAMS

In 2018, The Vanderpump Dog Foundation began operating two shelters in China that house and rehabilitate dogs rescued from The Yulin Dog Meat Festival. We are currently taking care of over 500 dogs rescued from the dog meat trade. Many of these dogs were rescued from a large rescue on 6.19 and had suffered multiple traumas. Most were severely malnourished, with infections and injuries, and many had organ failure. We have spent the past two years getting them the medical attention they deserved and nursing them back to full health! Happily, all 500 are now doing well, and we have adapted our care over the past two years to ensure they have the best care possible.
We have also begun working with partners internationally to re-home these dogs in areas of the world where rescue groups/ organizations are not as prevalent, and there’s less overpopulation. We will continue this adoption process in order to create space for more dogs that will inevitably be saved from The Yulin Dog Meat Festival or other areas of the dog meat trade in the coming year.
We will continue to focus on a combination of adoptions in China as well as working with international partners to relocate and adopt out in areas of low adoption services. We have embraced a platform of education, awareness and legislation, to propel our movement forward in China, as well as around the world.
OUR TWO RESCUE SHELTERS IN CHINA
The Vanderpump Dog Foundation has set-up a satellite office in China consisting of 14 employees. Dr. John Sessa, our Executive Director, travels there once every 4-6 weeks. Ultimately, The Foundation hopes to become a registered NGO in China, to help us further our mission on the ground.
With the completion of our on site mini-hospital at our China facilities, we are able to better help the needs of our dogs overseas. This includes on-site surgeries, treatment of skin conditions and vaccination requirements. We are currently in the process of performing sterilizations on all 500 of the dogs, to make sure they are not contributing to overpopulation, and are ready for adoption.
We have been upgrading our new shelters by providing leasehold improvements to the current facilities. This includes additional kennel space, that will add more than 150 rooms for our dogs currently and for the future. Moreover, our goal is to create an agility park for our rescues in China so they may be able to exercise throughout the day in a safe, comfortable environment.
HELP US RELOCATE OUR DOGS TO A NEW SHELTER IN CHINA!
Due to the ongoing Pandemic, city officials in China are cracking down on areas that house live animals. Unfortunately, this means that both of our shelters are being forced to relocate by the end of July. We have spent the last two months finding the perfect location that we know is not at risk of relocation for the foreseeable future and also has the least amount of renovation costs.
We must begin the relocation process of our 500+ dogs at our two shelters to our new single shelter. With temperatures averaging 105 degrees Fahrenheit, these survivors of the Yulin Dog Meat Festival will need to be transported in temperature controlled vehicles to ensure a safe arrival at our new facility. Moreover, we expect to complete roughly 20 trips of 25 dogs each to successfully complete this feat.

To fully complete this undertaking costs us $100 per dog, or $2500 per trip and with your help, we can continue to provide the best life for our Yulin survivors.
